This is my first martial arts gym, what can I expect?
Well we are glad you chose Powerhouse MMA! You can expect a friendly, upbeat environment where people from all ages and backgrounds come together and train to become better martial artists.

Why should I choose the Gold Gladiator membership over the other memberships?
Gold Gladiator allows you unlimited classes to all programs offered (Striking, Grappling, Fighter Fit). It also includes one FREE private lesson per month and 10% off private training lessons. You have open gym access from 11:30am-3pm being a Gold Gladiator! It's the most bang for your buck!

What do I wear on my first day?
All classes only require athletic shorts (no zippers) and t-shirt.
Striking classes require boxing gloves and/or shin pads (if doing muay thai). We do have gloves for purchase at the front desk if you want to check out our recommended gear. We will get you fitted and onto your first class in no time! Just give us a call or stop by and we will get you going no problem!

Will I get hit if I take the striking classes?
No way, our striking classes are focused on instruction, heavy bag drills, focus mitt training, and partner drills. We have a designated class for experienced members. That is an invite only at a specified time. Ask Coach Zach if you have questions regarding sparring.

Do I have to be in shape to start training at the gym?
No, the training we do will slowly build up your wind and cardio, class by class. People advance at different speeds so we structure our classes to accommodate all body types and athletic abilities. The GOLD GLADIATOR membership allows you to take advantage during non-class times to drill and practice to increase your stamina and skill set.

Is MMA training violent or dangerous?
Not the way we train. We train very safe and efficiently. The key to longevity is work smarter, not harder. Safety and remaining healthy is always our top priority. You can't train tomorrow if you're hurt today.

Is this gym good for women?
Powerhouse MMA is beneficial to anyone! We encourage women to challenge themselves and try something different and to even bring a friend! MMA training is the most efficient form of self-defense on the market and we highly recommend women come in and give it a try for that reason alone. MMA is a great tool to have. Most people who start training MMA never regret it.

If I want to cancel my membership, is it a big hassle?
Not at all. We understand life happens and things change. We hate to see you go but allow you to cancel membership at anytime. We just require a ONE MONTH WRITTEN notice and you may rejoin at anytime in the future.

Why should I put my child in MMA as opposed to Karate or Tae Kwon Do?
The difference is between what we offer and other martial arts gyms is what we do is more effective for real life applications. If your child suffers from bullying, MMA is the best thing for them for physical fitness, confidence, and overall self-esteem. Other traditional martial arts gyms are just overblown day cares. All Karate or Tae Kwon Do schools are singular in their skill sets and do not offer a wide variety of martial arts technique. They are a dime a dozen and simply aren't as effective as modern day MMA training, both from a fitness stand point as well as a skill for self defense. Your child will gain more confidence at an MMA gym than any other traditional Martial arts gym. Also, if your child is interested in wrestling at the high school or college level. Our KIDS wrestling program easily allows a child to transition over with an advantage and experience over other kids.

I am really nervous and I don't want to be embarrassed on my first day. What should I do?
Our members are martial artists, and being a martial artist requires understanding and sympathy to those who are new to the sport. We all once stood in your shoes and made the same decision you are contemplating. MMA is a fun place where people come because they want to be here and achieve their goals. You will be treated like family from the moment you step in the doors til you leave and everywhere in between. Everyone from the instructors to your peers will welcome you. We were all beginners at one time so we know the feelings you are having on your first couple days.

Should I eat before I come?
Maybe a small power bar or quick snack will give you the energy you need during your workout! But more importantly, bring plenty of water/gatorade!

Do I wear shoes?
No shoes are allowed on the mat. All classes take place on the mat. Shoes/slippers are required when not on the mat and in common areas.

What separates Powerhouse MMA from other MMA gyms?
We pride ourselves on being a TRUE MMA gym. MMA stands for "Mixed Martial Arts" so we specialize in all of the martial arts equally. We do not emphasize or favor one style or discipline over another like many other gyms. We have skilled instruction on each of the many disciplines under the umbrella that is MMA. In addition to our unique approach to the sport, we have designated MMA classes are specifically structured to the MMA competition ruleset and these classes are 100% devoted to MMA style drills, techniques, and approach. We also have an invite only MMA competition team for those who want to go above and beyond the standard training and want to pursue MMA competitively. We offer high quality instruction from tried and true experience and you are guaranteed to learn something new and have good time! Thats what separates us from the other guys. (And our prices are a lot better)

Can I lose weight doing MMA classes or Fighter Fit?
Oh yeah! MMA will most likely be the most fun and engaging workout you will ever do but also the most challenging. You will burn hundreds of calories during the classes. You will use muscle groups you didn't even know you had!

If I need to ask a personal question or have something that needs to be addressed, who do I talk to?
Coach Zach will help you with whatever your problem is. Just ask him to step aside. You can also drop by the gym during the day or meet him after class and he will gladly help you in anyway.

So, when can we expect you in the gym for your trail class!?
